Air Conditioning Installation - Brisbane Northside

Air Conditioning Brisbane North

Air-Conditioning installation in Brisbane is conducted by a fully qualified electrician. A qualified electrician will be able to install the most appropriate air-conditioning system for your climate control needs for Brisbane’s weather conditions. Whether your home requires a split system ductless air-conditioning system or a central ducted air-conditioning system, a qualified electrician will be able to install the most efficient system in accordance with best practice and the highest of Australian safety standards.

Principles Of Refrigeration

Heat transference is the main principle behind the effective operation of an air-conditioning system. Heat is always transferred when matter changes state. For example, when a gas becomes a liquid it emits heat, conversely when a liquid becomes a gas it absorbs heat. By harnessing this natural process of heat transference we are able to create climate control or air-conditioning.

Modern Air-Conditioning

To harness this process there is a four-part cycle that all air conditioners must have to make them viable. The closed circuit mechanism that all air-conditioning systems must use to ensure effective climate control is comprised of the compression phase, condensation phase, expansion phase and finally the evaporation phase.

Modern air-conditioning systems must maintain a closed circuit to ensure economy of the refrigerants specifically designed to easily move from liquid to gaseous state and back again. There are four main stages to an air-conditioning system.

The first stage is where the refrigerant moves in to the compressor as a low-pressure gas. The refrigerant is compressed and moves from the compressor in a high-pressure gaseous state. The gas then flows into the condenser. In this stage the gas is further condensed into a liquefied state. It is in this stage that the gas gives off heat into the outside atmosphere. This condensed liquid refrigerant moves through an expansion valve at high pressure. The expansion valve restricts the flow of fluid and the pressure is lowered as it leaves the expansion valve. This low-pressure liquid moves to the evaporator. This stage is where heat is drawn from the interior environment into the gas. As it does so the gas absorbs the heat and it changes state from a low-pressure liquid into a low-pressure gas. The cycle is finalized by the hot low-pressure refrigerant gas moves back to the compressor where the cycle starts again.

Traditional window mounted air-conditioning systems are divided at the centre of the unit into two parts – the high side and low side. The high and low sides refer to the high pressure and low-pressure aspects of the system.

Evaporative Coolers

Not all air-conditioning systems utilize the four-part cycle and refrigerant gas. Some air-conditioning units in Brisbane rely on heat transference with water and the differing effects of sensible heat and latent heat. The easy way to remember the difference between sensible heat and latent heat is that sensible heat is the heat that you can feel or sense and relates to the changes of temperature when matter is in a set state. Latent heat relates to the heat required to create a change in state of matter and exhibits no change in sensible temperature only a phase in state of matter i.e. from a gas to a liquid.

The evaporative cooler will draw hot, preferable dry, air through a water soaked sponge surface. As the hot dry air moves through the sponge some of the sensible heat will be drawn off to change the state of the water in the sponge from a liquid to a gas. This will reduce the sensible heat of the air passing through the device. The by-product of this process is just some warm and humid air.

It is the process of cooling dry hot air with water that makes this kind of evaporative heater very effective in dry climates. However in very humid climates the effectiveness of this kind of evaporative cooler is drastically reduced such as the high humidity encountered in Brisbane.

Split-System Air-Conditioning Installation

Split-system air-conditioning unit have the two parts of the air-conditioning system (as mentioned above) but are further divided into two completely separate units. These units can be housed some distance from each other, making the air-conditioning system much more effective at cooling large scale buildings and/or for creating temperature zoning for separate rooms.

There are mini-split or ductless air conditioning systems and there are central or ducted air-conditioning systems.

The mini-split or ductless system can be utilized to chill a few separate rooms or one large space. The ductless or mini-split systems have some advantages for the prospective purchaser, such as smaller size and greater flexibility for creating temperature zones in different rooms or areas of a home. The space required for this system is much reduced and the components can be separated at some distance and still remain just as effective.

Central Air-Conditioning System Installation

Central or ducted air-conditioning systems are much better for controlling the climate in large areas such as office blocks or through an entire house. Giving the owner much greater control of temperatures through multi-zone temperature control. Often the central or ducted air-conditioning system has a central unit that is often located in the roof of the building to better dissipate heat from the unit.

Whichever unit of air conditioner you choose for your home the basic principles remain the same. But you are the best judge of what environmental and other factors will impact on the effectiveness of the air-conditioning system that you choose.
